Who Made This?

Ages 12–15 · 10 minutes · You’ll need: Any post, video or article

Four questions to ask about anything you see online.

Set up

Pick a post, a video or an article together, or use the examples on this device.

How to play

  1. Who made this? A person, a company, a government?
  2. Why did they make it: to inform, sell, persuade or entertain?
  3. What’s missing? Whose side isn’t shown?
  4. Who pays for it: ads, sponsors, subscribers?
  5. Decide together: how much do you trust it, from 1 to 5?

What to say

  • “How do you know who made it?”
  • “What would the other side say?”

Easier: Start with ads, where the answers are clearer.

Harder: Use news about something your family disagrees on.

End with one question: “Which of the four questions surprised you most?”
