Find the hidden number with as few guesses as possible. Hint: start in the middle.
Set up
One of you thinks of a number, or let the device choose one.
How to play
- One person picks a secret number.
- The other guesses; the picker says “higher” or “lower”.
- Count the guesses.
- Swap roles.
- Talk about the best first guess.
What to say
- “Which guess cuts the choices in half?”
- “How many numbers are left now?”
Easier: Numbers from 1 to 10.
Harder: 1 to 1,000: can you do it in 10 guesses?
End with one question: “Why is the middle the best first guess?”
